Migraine Journey Wednesdays (Vol.19 – Katy Russell)

Hi, my name is Katy and I was born in England and raised in Spain. I’m 38 this year and I started getting migraines when I was 4. I wasn’t allowed milk, chocolate, etc., because I had sinusitis but still got migraines. I had my vision tested and got glasses and also would get acupuncture. When I was 8, we moved to Spain and for the next 4 years my migraines were chronic.
There after in my teens, I’d get 3 or 4 a month, then when I was pregnant at 23, I didn’t have any until the day I gave birth. After that I’d have maybe 1 every 2 months. When I was 36, that’s when it got really bad. I had 15 to 18 migraines a month for a year, I went to a neurologist and got medications which took 8 months to fully work, and now I have 3 or 4 a month but they are getting more frequent.
The People Around Me
The people around me are supportive and understanding of my situation. They know what to do and they give me peace and quiet whenever needed.
The Effects of Migraines on My Life
Migraines have caused me to quit certain sports and made me think twice to drink and eat certain things. When I have a migraine and the day after I do not function. When in school, I would have to leave or sometimes give it a miss, and if I had to work I probably would be sacked for missing so many day. They year and 8 months I had it chronic, I didn’t do anything but be ill.
What I’ve Tried
I’ve tried calcium blockers, they were very helpful but the side effects for me were very scary. Maxalt is another thing which is very helpful for me.
Days Things Get Unbearable
I take a Quidix and go to bed, tomorrow will be better than today.
